This past year was my first mothers day and (like a mother) I wanted to make the day special for someone else. Lot’s of someone else’s. I have been so fortunate to have such a wonderful group of mom friends and since we had all gone through the trenches of the first year of motherhood together, I wanted to celebrate them with a lovely Mother’s day brunch at home (obviously all the babies came too)! Here are a few ways I created an elevated space in the kitchen without making the design out of reach.
For the palette, I went with bright springy colors like the moss green runner on the table and pink linen napkins to compliment the ombre floral arrangements. Teal table runners on the kitchen island and counter top made an everyday space feel a little more elevated and added a layer for florals and linens to pop.
Color blocking your florals is simple but elegant way to make your table look pulled together without spending too much time building arrangements.
While nobody likes a sink full of dishes, a sink full of flowers is a different story. Adding florals to the sink is SUCH an easy and impactful way to make an everyday space feel special not to mention you don’t need to clean a vase or really do any arranging. I filled our sink with florals that guests took home as gifts along with award ribbons from Yellow Owl Workshop.
For the Mother’s day gifts, everyone got a ‘Mother of the Freaking Year’ ribbon as well as one they picked them selves. Some of my other favorites here, here, and here.
Obviously we had a mimosa bar. For the mimosa bar I offered two carafes of juice, orange and grapefruit (love the way they perfectly matched the flowers) and my favorite ONE HOPE sparkling wine. Every bottle gives back to different causes and this bottle provides meals for children in need. I thought it was a great cause to contribute to for Mother’s Day.
For the brunch I chose a (mostly healthy) menu that was already cool or could be enjoyed at room temperature. If there was anything I learned in my first year of parenting it’s that you likely won’t be eating most meals hot. I did a fresh spring leaf salad with cherry tomatoes and sliced lemon with olive oil, mini waffles (hand held food is also a plus when hosting a bunch of parents with littles running around), mini brie and mushroom frittatas (cooked in a muffin tin and the recipe options are truly endless), a fresh parfait, and a bagel bar. Here’s the thing about this brunch menu – it takes NO TIME and looks BEAUTIFUL.
Corey offered to make the parfait while I ran out to the farmers market to grab more flowers. I told my him I wanted it to look like something Martha Stewart would make and I think he 100% delivered. I came home to find him with a sheet of paper covering each section to create this design. He’s such a freaking gem.
I was SO excited to find the cherry blossom branches at the last minute. They are so stunning and effortless.
Needless to say we all had a pretty lovely time, especially this little goober.
Sending lots of love and support for Mother’s Day and everyday.
