Thanksgiving two ways!

For this Thanksgiving I decided to style our table two ways. Before I became a Mom I had never really considered a kids table but now that Poppy has started pre-school we have had more tiny guests running around. I wanted to create a table that was colorful and festive for the holiday and also felt sophisticated and playful. We used similar elements in both so that they stayed cohesive but swapped a few pieces to make it kid friendly.

For the ‘grown-up’ (and I use that term loosely) table scape, I found this pretty runner from Target that works for both designs. I love the plaid for a fall feel but crisp white with the mustard and teal keeps it light and airy. For me good design is all about textures and layers so I made sure to include lots of both!

Most fall table scapes are filled with deep rich colors which I love but sometimes it can feel a little too ‘adult’. To blend the whimsey of the grown-up table with the playfulness of the kids table I added sparklie pumpkins from Glitterville and turkey crackers from Meri Meri (we like the fun stuff too)!

I almost always do a knotted napkin- it feels elegant but also laid back and the brown and ivory pattern acts as a good fall neutral against the grey plates. Adding a pretty paper napkin to the Thanksgiving place setting adds a punch of color and is an available cocktail napkin for pre-dinner snacks (or with littles, inevitable spills).

I paired the wine glasses with the copper water glasses to add more sparkle and warmth, and hot pink taper candles for a striking visual across the table.

No table setting is complete without florals and Domonique Rose nailed the design with her bright, fall floral arrangements. I love how she added the dried leaves to the arrangements to tie in the oranges, browns, and yellows that are so traditional for a good fall color palette.

For the kids table I used the same beautiful Target runner and replaced the clay dishes with layered paper place settings. I used a ‘real’ plate as a charger and layered three paper plates taped together (here, here, and here). For older kids you don’t have to do this but for our two year old this is a pretty great trick to keep everything together and still pretty.

The kids table got two cute pumpkin paper napkins (here and here) and a pink plastic fork that felt ‘grown-up’ (the grass is always greener, right)? How stinking cute are the little fringe cups from Meri Meri?! I loved that they felt like feathers when they were fluffed up!

I peppered in these adorable fringe trees from Opal house among the same Glitterville pumpkins and added some piñata pumpkins by Lulu Flora to the Thanksgiving place settings.

Of course we added balloons for some extra color and whimsey and I LOVE how the colors all look together. We moved the hot pink taper candles to the back buffet and replaced them with small pink votives for electric candles.

No Thanksgiving dinner is complete without some pie so Butter Cake Shoppe brought over one of each of the holiday favorites but with their own added flair. A caramelized apple crumble, spiked butterscotch pumpkin and a dark and gooey pecan pie- they were SO good!
